The gold standard for breast health and breast cancer detection is mammography,
and early detection is scientifically proven to save lives. That’s why it’s so essential for women to get annual mammograms.
Women should talk about their personal risk factors with their doctor before making a decision about when to start getting mammograms or how often they should be screened. Breast cancer is the second most diagnosed cancer in women, affecting one in every eight women in the United States. With mammography breast cancer can be detected before it can be felt.
NEW TECHNOLOGIES FOR CLEARER DETECTION
3D mammography is suggested for all women having mammography. It provides a clearer, more accurate view of the breast and allows our radiologists to more effectively pinpoint the size, shape and location of any abnormalities.
3D mammography detects smaller breast cancers than with traditional mammograms. Better detection can eliminate the need for additional screenings, reducing stress and anxiety resulting from a request for a call back appointment.
Holy Redeemer offers Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (3D mammography) at our destination centers in Bensalem, Feasterville, Southampton, and Huntingdon Valley. Same day imaging and real time reads are available at the Holy Redeemer Women’s Center in Southampton. For women with dense breasts, Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) is offered at our Southampton location. Should an abnormality be discovered your doctor will advise you of the best course of action. Walk–ins for mammograms are welcome at all of the Holy Redeemer sites and appointment requests can be made online at holyredeemer.com.
COMPREHENSIVE BREAST CARE SURGEONS
Breast cancer is a diagnosis that affects the entire family. Clearly, the individual who is being treated for cancer requires not only intensive medical care, but emotional and spiritual support as well. At Comprehensive Breast Care Surgeons we believe that when we surgically remove the cancer, it is just the beginning of the journey. We pride ourselves on following our patients through all phases of their treatment and recovery.
We continually work towards decreasing the time between finding a palpable mass or having an abnormal mammogram and having a definitive diagnosis. We remain on the cutting edge of breast care by offering the latest technological advancements in breast cancer detection and treatment. By adopting minimally
invasive techniques as the standard of care, we have been able to decrease the time from when you are seen in the office to your biopsy. Once we know what we are dealing with in terms of the pathologic diagnosis, we can move forward towards definitive treatment.
If reconstructive surgery is desired, we work in close partnership with plastic and reconstructive surgeons like William Scarlett, D.O., FACS, FACOS, FAACS. Dr. Scarlett specializes in breast reconstruction and oncoplastic surgery. He reviews all of the options that are available to the patient, helping them make the best choice for their individual situation. Breast reconstruction can be an integral step in their breast cancer journey. For many women this helps to provide a feeling of wholeness and emotional healing. Breast reconstruction can be done the day
of the mastectomy or years later. This is ultimately the woman’s choice.
We also work closely with The Healing Consciousness Foundation (thehealingconsciousness.com), a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2007 by Dr. Beth DuPree and a group of community members. HCF offers a wide variety of therapies and interventions that are not typically covered by conventional insurance.
We feel privileged to participate in the treatment of so many women in our community. We are committed to providing state-of-the-art breast cancer care and feel that this opens a door to facilitate healing in each and every person with whom we come in contact.
Remind the women you know and love about the importance of regular mammograms—it just might save their life.
